"A charge to keep I have, A God to glorify; A never-dying soul to save, And fit it for the sky."
Your soul is precious; and priceless. Its value is found in it’s Creator (Isaiah 57:16) and it’s Redeemer (1 Peter 1:18-19)
Therefore God has given His Church and more specifically its Shepherds/Elders the responsibility of caring for the souls of men and women (Acts 20:28; Hebrews 13:17; 1 Peter 5:1-3).
At First Assembly we take the responsibility of ‘soul care’ very seriously and have created a framework where a number of godly, mature, wise, and compassionate men and women are available to serve the spiritual and practical needs of those who attend.
You will find below a brief biographical sketch of each of our Elders.
If you need ministry from the Elders you may call them at their numbers below.
May the Chief Elder, Jesus Christ (1 Peter 5:4), build you and bless you!
Atascadero First Assembly's Elders
Art Amsk is a Montana boy. Raised in a non-Christian home, it wasn’t until his late twenties that he met Christ. From that time on Art has always had a passion to know, prove and live God’s Word. Those who know Art and his wonderful wife Colleen can testify to their knowledge of Scripture and the spiritual fruit they continue to produce in the lives of others.
Art and Colleen combine a lifetime of experience, spiritual maturity and great godly wisdom to minister powerfully to those in and out of the Church. The fervency of their prayers to God, are matched by the depth of their love for people.
Henry and Sue Guerrero were married in 1972 in Los Angeles. They had both been raised in devout Catholic homes. Early in their marriage they became active in the Charismatic Renewal movement within the Catholic Church. That encounter with the Person and work of the Holy Spirit eventually led them to join an Assemblies of God congregation.
The Guerrero family arrived in Atascadero in 1988 and immediately became a part of our Church family. You will find Henry and Sue’s fingerprints, at some point in time, on almost every ministry of the Church – worship team, youth & children ministries, Board of Deacons, intercessory prayer, evangelism, etc. Their love for God and people is contagious.
Rita Keefer, is a single mom with three grown children. She came to Atascadero First Assembly several years ago from Northern California and has been consistently involved in the churches prayer, drama, choir, and children’s ministries.
Those who know Rita appreciate her compassionate heart, wise counsel, servant attitude and sense of humor. Rita is a person of great faith who loves to pray and believe the promises of God for people and see those promises come to fruition. Rita has great spiritual discernment and the ability impart the peace and encouragement of God to people.
Rob and Rene McNerlin have been involved in the life of First Assembly for many years. Rob has a wonderful spiritual foundation, laid in large part by his very godly parents and his spirit filled, Nazarene grandmother.
The McNerlins have served the Church in prayer, drama and worship ministries, as Home Group Leaders and on various ministry boards. They are a spiritually energetic couple who possess the grace gifts of compassion, generosity and leadership. They have a genuine concern for the well-being of all people.
Ron and Debbie Orcutt are two of the finest people you will ever meet. Ron was born in Oregon, raised in wonderful Christian home and called into ministry as a young man. He has been an Ordained Assemblies of God Pastor for more than 25 years. He and Debbie have seen much spiritual fruit in their pastoral ministry.
Ron’s strengths are his tender heart, godly wisdom, great faith and genuine humility. Debbie is creative and talented artist, who excels at the gift of hospitality. Together they have served the Lord at every level of Church ministry. They minister practical help and spiritual hope to everyone they meet.
